Become a Roller Girl
FRESH MEAT:
Our fresh meat intake is for skaters with basic skating experience, but no derby skills. If you have previous skating experience, you can try out for the League at our next skater intake after the season. Our next skater intake will start on 17 October and run for 3 weeks on Sundays. Please email freshmeat@sydneyrollerderby.com for more information on the next intake.
You will need all of your own skating gear, including protective equipment - a helmet, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a mouthguard. You should also bring plenty of water and a great attitude! All skaters must be over 18 years of age and have their own skates.

In the first 2 sessions, we will teach you some basic derby skating like correct stance and how to fall and in the 3rd session, we’ll assess your skills using our white star entry level assessment. Girls who pass the assessment will be invited to join the League. If you don’t pass, don’t lose heart – try again next time!
If you would like to learn how to skate or get some practice skating on your own before you try out for the League, talk to James O’Connor (www.rollerskatingsydney.com) about lessons to prepare you for the fresh meat intake.
As a member of SRDL, you must be able to attend a minimum of 2 practices per week when you first start training. Additional training times may be added as you progress through the league. Please take this into consideration if you already have commitments throughout the week (school, job, hobbies. etc.). In addition to these weekly practices, all League members are expected to attend League meetings and donate some of their time to help the League (for example, serve on a committee, help with fundraisers, or help pack up after bouts).
FOR THE GUYS:
Love roller derby, but don’t have the right equipment? We welcome men as skating referees (on quads or blades), commentators, and bout officials. If you think you’ve got what it takes to skate as a ref, drop us a line. In the meantime, we always need non-skating officials to help out behind the scenes, so contact Team Zebra to volunteer. |
